CEDAR RAPIDS - Rising waters in Eastern Iowa have people thinking about flooding.
The Flood Incident Management team in Cedar Rapids hopes to calm some of those fears at a meeting Thursday afternoon. The team, comprised of representatives from the City's Fire, Police, Public Works and other support departments, will hold a news conference at 2'30pm. It will be held in the atrium of the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
The goal is to provide facts and an update on the flood predictions for the Cedar River. They also want to address concerns that residents may have regarding flood risk. The team will detail how the city has prepared for flooding and how the public can prepare.
Thursday night, Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett will host his monthly Flood Forum. It starts at 6pm in the lower level of Westdale Mall.
The forum will feature three presentations, including a status update on a flood risk management system feasibility study and a Spring 2010 Weather Forecasting Overview. Before the Flood Forum, Cedar Rapids residents are also invited to attend an information session to review the updated FEMA flood insurance rate maps.
